Looking for references

After asking people about what would they expect to see in our music video I went to look different music videos of the artist Ed Sheeran who is the one that sings "The City" to see if they have the "Illustration" relation between song and video, that most people would expect.

After my research I found 4 things:

1. Ed Sheeran does not have many music videos.
2.Most of his videos do follow the lyrics or make a very obvious relation between the song and the video.
3. The guitar is not a very important prop for him; it does not appear in any of his official videos. It is more for an unplugged video.

4.The most important thing in his videos is him. There is no much activity in the screen besides him singing. (except for one music video called "Give Me Love", He does not appear once in this video, we just can heard his voice.)

In conclusion the videos are what the people expect from them, the lyrics of the song determines the video. They follow the Illustration theory.

What to expect in a music video for the song "The city"

During the planning for  the music video, one of the biggest question for us was, what kind of props would we use because it is an indie song, the props use for this genre are minimum but to get a better sense of what people would expect to see, I asked a couple of friends (who are between 18 to 25 which is our target         audience) after they have listened to the song what they would expect to see in a music video for this song.

I asked approx 12 people and all they say that they would expect images of a city (London) and the artist singing, others also say that they would imagine the artist as a traveller or as a very tired man. The only prop that popped out was a guitar.

After each answer I asked why they expect a city and they said because of the lyrics. As the song talks about London they immediately think about the Big Ben and the famous places of London.

"The song talks about a not very happy person so you imagine the artist tired or sad" This was a general thought of how the artist would look.

"For the way he sings" was the reason some thought that a guitar would look good in the video.

Planning: reflection of progress V-Log

What was my 3 targets i set for myself:
1. Use more range of Ict skills when creating the blogs
2.produce more blogs which are my own and not presented on the blogging sheet

3.Meet deadlines and spend more time on the blogs

I have made great use of Ict skills such as prezi and creating an short clip instead of constant paragraphs and pictures.Need to make more own blogs. had some troubles previously from meeting deadlines but have started panning out deadlines for the planning section.

Future targets
Improve on off blogging and put more analysis into bloggs

PRODUCTION - Day 2

-
On day two of filming, I didn't have college, therefore I  travelled by myself to Central London/Westminister. I ended up getting lost half way through my journey!
However, I did find my way at the end.

From previous filming experience we encountered a few minor problems. Therefore, to not make the same mistake again I made sure that my phone battery was fully charged. When I arrived to the location I wasn’t too late or too early (good start so far). Also Fabiolla brought a torch, especially designed for filming and it made the night shots look a
lot much better, which was great.

How do you think the filming went?

I think the filming went rather well hence the freezing cold weather; and that we still managed to successfully finish the filming of the base tracks. Also long tracking shot of Nimar walking through the busy street of Westminister Bridge and Waterloo.

Planning: using animatic with test shots

Here are our test shots we took in relaltion to our animatics so we can have practise of of filming our ideas and see how it might come out
Test shot of me on the floor which is meant to represent a base track of me on the pavement singing as seen below in the animatic. We had ideas of props such as guitar being used showing me playing with the beat

Base track of  walking towards the camera. we are also going have me walking while singing this is gong to be our second base track

Third base track on an balcony at night. we are having some problems finding an accessable balcony so we are looking for an high place at the same time just in case we cant get our hands on a balcony.

Production - Day 2

The second day of filming happened on the 25th of October. We went to central London to film most of our music video including walking through the city shots and the base track walking and singing. We experimented filming at both day and night but at night the lack of lighting was a bit of a problem. Here are some pictures of the day:

Teacher feedback

Hello group 26
I'm looking through your blog and I'm a little bit worried by the rather low blog count.  At this stage in the term we'd expect students to be hitting around 60+ blogs.... Don't forget about the blogging during the filming process - progression blogs outlining how you are getting on, changes that you are making as a result of filming and a schedule for filming are really important blogs.  It's also important to keep blogging around planning ideas for the editing of your video.

Get blogging.....
