Research-Analysis of Three Digipaks

Our artist genre is a mixture of indie rock and pop so I will be analysing artists from these two genres or that have the same mixture. I looked for Digipaks that have more conventions of the indie style because this is the style that would fit better into Ray Jones descriptions. He is a new artist, therefore he has a very limited budget, its a new approach and a  high risk for any record label, so his album and ancillary product would be simplistic, focusing more in his face and identity rather than other marketing tools and this style is found in the indie conventions.

"The Script" is a band that is very similar to our artist. They play some indie-rock music and its digipak is very simplistic but effective, they follow the classic conventions, they use the same font for all the lettering and no more that 3 colours. Yellow is the predominant colour and there is white and black, these 3 colours make look the digipak very tidy and spacious. The name of the album is below the name of the artist which is conventional and the lettering do not touch any image. It does appeal to the audience trough the use of the band's picture, plus the use of hands gives that sense of support or touch-feeling music, that they might be looking. The use of the picture can be the key to connect with my audience and genre.

"Lilly Allen" is a very famous artist that plays indie rock and pop. Her digipak is very simplistic keeping the conventions excepting the position and visibility of the artist because she is already very well known. They use the same font for all the lettering following conventions except for the big letters on the back cover. The name of the album is below the name of the artist. It appeals to the audience trough the use of colour, girls are immediately connected with the cover plus Lilly Allen is a very well known artist so the use of the L can linked her with the cover. A soft colour is the key to use in my digipak, because my audience would be looking something tidy and simple and also is a convention.

"Alice Gold" is a non very well know artist that shares the same type of music with our artist. This digipak is very indie and gives me ideas about how simple can something be but can still being effective to promote and artist. The digipak does not say much but is showing the artist which is the main idea and is promoting the album so I believe does its job very well. The audience can find the difference that they are looking for from the mainstream music in this digipak it is simple but is different and this is what I would use to connect with my audience, keeping it simple and concise.
