Research - Previous Experience

On my summer holidays in 2011, I went back to Brazil - my homeland - and I have a friend there that likes playing acoustic guitar and she composes her own songs. Because I had a lot of appreciation for her work, I proposed Aerin for us to create a music video for my favourite song of hers. The intention wasn’t to look professional, but much more like a fun experience. We watched many Brazilian music videos of the same genre and that inspired us to get some ideas. The music video was completely homemade, with hand-held camera shots, without lip-syncing because Aerin didn’t want to lip-sync, and filmed with a Panasonic  HDC-SD60 - which is not the best quality but it was just meant to be a fun project. The music was recorded with the same camera and I just extracted the sound. We didn’t do a storyboard but we wrote down in notes some of the ideas we had for shots. We didn’t plan it very well, which I very much regretted when editing the video, since I didn’t have enough footage and had to use some poor or repeated shots. She was very pleased with the outcome since it turned out to be a fun video the way she wanted. Here is the outcome:

Many of our friends took part in the project. When I uploaded it on Facebook, the friends that participated have also appreciated the outcome. When asking friends about the video, they said they particularly liked the editing at the end. The name of the song translated is “Projections” and the chorus says “even if everything does not end, delete my images, because everything was a projection error”. It is a love song, and we wanted it to have Aerin’s style - what we definitely achieved, many people commented on how it was a perfect representation of her. I have filmed, edited and produced the video for her, and she helped me with the production. I used iMovie to edit it, since I didn’t have any other better professional editors, but it was a very fun project and even though it is not the best quality, we enjoyed the outcome and many people did enjoy it as well.

We promoted it through various social networking websites like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr. I had the help of the artist (Aerin), Daniela and Martina (two friends) to promote the video, and we reached a bit over 300 views in two days. However, Aerin said that she didn’t want to spread the video anymore since she did it more to have fun rather than to promote herself, therefore we stopped and the views rate fell down intensely - which shows how promotion and social networking websites can have powerful influence on an artist.
