There are not so many photographs since we were busy with the filming process, but I believe they can be useful. The only possible issue with them, is that they were taken at the same location with the same costume, and we were told that we couldn't get stills from our music video because it is not really supposed to be advertising the music video directly. However, it could also be a strength since our ancillary products have to be visually linked with the music video somehow. I might need to be reassured by a teacher to know if it is ok to use these images, but I believe it should be fine. In addition, most of the images do not appear in the music video at all, we did not include the shots against the orange brick wall neither shots of Ray Jones singing as he walks at night in the music video, so the connection is not completely direct.
Thinking about these images that I got, and thinking about this idea of having to create visual link between all the products (ancillary and music video), what comes to my mind is that because in our music video we wanted to use blue tones effectively, I might want to keep that throughout the ancillary products and the graphic style. I have started to do some experimentation to get the initial ideas for my ancillary products. For example, I have manipulated two images in Photoshop with this idea of trying to keep the blue tones:
I like the results and I think this idea could work well. Thinking about colour schemes and the front cover I have also made samples of how the front cover could be, and I tried out fonts and colour schemes to see how they would look together with the photograph. Here is one sample which I liked:
I think the font and the colour work alright, I am not so convinced about the placement of the title though, and perhaps the title should be from a different colour (not the same as the artist's name). But this is just a sample to give me an initial visual idea of how the front cover could look like. I might consider using the same photograph/font/colours but I need to think of how to make it fit with the digipak as a whole, otherwise it will not look good.
The photograph used can be compared to a still of our music video:
It is the same location, but it is filmed at day light whereas in the photograph I have used artificial lighting in his face and it was taken at twilight. Also, the artist is wearing a different costume in the photograph, but the gray cardigan appears in the music video in a different scene.
