PLANNING - Genre

By the analysis of the original artist,  Ed Sheeran comes across a couple of genres which overlap between acoustic pop, indie, hip pop and pop rock. This is great for our new new artisit, Ray Jones as we can use ideas from each genre.

POP music often borrows elements from other styles including urban, dance and rock. It is usually seen as to be developing, generally by the targeted market, which is the younger audience. Pop music generally features repeated choruses, upbeat, melodic tunes and catchy rhythm.
Many pop artists focus on trendy, over the top outfits which sometime do not reflect the type of person they are, however matching it to the music they are singing, basically a costume just for the performance. During the production of a pop music video, record labels and the artist use high budgeted locations, props; such as, cars, helicopters, swimming pools and possibly travel to an exotic or cold country. The editing process of the music video is also expensive mainly because of the special effects that make the video much more appealing to the audience.

Indie Rock is a genre of alternative rock, which is extremely diverse, with sub-genres that include indie pop, jangle pop and C86 etc. In the 1990s Britpop bands in the UK broke the mainstream, as the music industry began to change in 2000 due to the expansion of the internet; a number of indie rock artists began to enjoy commercial success.  This means an indie artist mainly has focus on the music and especially their love for their instruments. Performing or recording in a simple studio, which compliments an ordinary lifestyle. In appearance wise the artist wouldn’t be wearing expensive clothing, much more likely low budgeted and vintage. The artist’s appearance would reflect the type of person they are. Songs are mainly sometimes personal.
